Question:
Why can't I see the Outlook2CRM Toolbar in Outlook even though I have installed the Outlook2CRM Client?
Answer:
It could be that the toolbar addin was either not correctly registered by the installation or that Outlook has disabled the addin. You can attempt the following to solve these issues:
1. Manually Register the Outlook2CRM Addin
You can manually register the Outlook2CRM Toolbar addin by registering the file "OutlookAddinShim.dll" in the Outlook2CRM installation directory. To register this file, you must bring up a Command Prompt, navigate to the Outlook2CRM installation directory (by default this would be "C:\Program Files\Customer FX Corporation\Outlook2CRM for Sage SalesLogix") and then enter:
regsvr32 outlookaddinshim.dll
2. Check Outlook's Disabled Addin List
In Outlook, go to the "Help" menu, then "About". In the bottom right corner of the About dialog there is a "Disabled Addins" button. Click this button. If "Outlook2CRM for Sage SalesLogix", "Outlook2CRM", or "OutlookAddinShim.dll" appear on this list, select it and click the "Enable" button.
3. Check to Make Sure Outlook is not Running in the Background
At times, it is possible that the Outlook2CRM addin (or other Outlook addins) will not appear if some other program has already loaded Outlook as a background process. The most common scenario for this is something like ActiveSync or Intellisync which will load Outlook in the background to synchronize with it. If this is the case, Outlook2CRM will attempt to load into the running Outlook as you move from folder to folder. You can check to see if this is your problem by doing a CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task Manager and then kill the running OUTLOOK.EXE process. Then launch Outlook to see if the Outlook2CRM toolbar appears.
Question:Outlook2CRM does not appear to function correctly if I have two copies of SalesLogix open at the same time. Why is this?
Answer:
Outlook2CRM does not support this scenario due to a limitation of SalesLogix. The methods that Outlook2CRM uses to communicate with the opened and running SalesLogix client cannot distinguish between two (or more) running instances of SalesLogix and cannot properly make calls to either running instance, causing the Outlook2CRM functions to not work properly.
Question:Does User Account Control (UAC) on Vista have any effect on installing Outlook2CRM?
Answer:
The User Account Control (UAC) must be turned on for the Office 2007 add-in installed to HKCU (for the current user account only) to work. For instance, if UAC is turned on, the user can turn the Outlook2CRM toolbar on / off via the COM Add-ins dialog. Otherwise, Office 2007 will show your add-in in this dialog but will not load the Outlook2CRM toolbar. For Vista systems with UAC turned off (which is likely for systems with SalesLogix) then Outlook2CRM should be installed for all users, which requires administrator approval.
